Document types we translate

Below you can find personal and corporate translation requests grouped by document type. First identify your document, then check what the receiving institution requires in terms of translation and certification. Sending the documents for the same application together makes it easier to keep names, dates and references consistent.

Universe Tercüme · Information guideUpdated:

Clarify the purpose before the document name

The same document may be requested with different translation and certification requirements for different applications. Appearing on this list does not mean a document always needs notarization or an apostille. In your quote request, share the target language, the country, the receiving institution and the set of documents you have.

Identity, civil registry and family documents

  • Passport
  • Identity card
  • Civil registry record
  • Birth certificate
  • Marriage certificate
  • Death certificate
  • Formula A certificate
  • Formula B certificate
  • Formula C certificate
  • Criminal record certificate
  • Residence certificate

Compare how names are spelt across your documents. Send the front and back of the document, its attachments and annotations in full. Even if you hold a multilingual document, find out whether the receiving institution still requires a translation.

Education, employment and personal application documents

  • Diploma
  • Transcript
  • Student certificate
  • Letter of intent
  • Petition
  • Bank statement
  • SGK (social security) service record
  • Translation for AT11
  • Military status certificate

State whether the application is for education, work, a visa or another purpose. For education documents, grading system notes and additional pages matter for the completeness of the file; for financial documents, the period and the account holder’s details do.

Property and vehicle documents

  • Title deed
  • Driving licence
  • Vehicle registration certificate

Tell us which transaction the document is for, the target country and how many copies you need. When counting pages, include any entries on the back and any attachments.

Company, tax and trade documents

  • Contract
  • Power of attorney
  • Signature circular
  • Trade Registry Gazette
  • Certificate of activity
  • Tax certificate
  • Trade registry record
  • Letter of undertaking
  • Provisional tax return
  • Incorporation gazette
  • Tax return
  • Change of address document
  • Registry certificate
  • Other corporate documents of your company

Send the company’s full trade name, any names used in earlier translations and the requirements of the institution requesting the document. Contract annexes, signature pages and the relevant parts of trade registry announcements must not be left out.

Certified or notarized?

A certified translation (sworn translation) is a translation prepared by a sworn translator; notarization is assessed separately. “Notarized” and “notary-certified” are terms used for the same certification step. Sharing the certification requirement exactly as it appears in the application guide allows any unclear wording to be resolved before the translation starts. For apostilles, see our separate guide.

How should you prepare your file?

  1. Scan all pages, stamps and attachments legibly.
  2. Write the source and target language, the purpose and the deadline.
  3. List the documents that will be submitted together in the same request.
  4. Tell us the required number of copies, signatures and delivery format.
  5. Complete any missing or illegible parts before approving the quote.

If you cannot see your document on the list, describe it and get in touch with us. For more detailed preparation, see our guides on passports and identity cards, diplomas and transcripts or company documents.

Frequently asked questions

Is every document on this list prepared as a notarized translation?

No. The document type alone does not create a certification requirement. What is needed is clarified according to the requirements of the institution the document will be submitted to.

Can I get a quote for a document that is not on the list?

Yes. Share the complete document, the target language and the purpose, and you can ask for an assessment of scope and suitability.

Can I send several documents in one request?

You can send the documents for the same application together. State separately which documents should be translated into which language and how many copies you need.

This guide is for general information. Confirm the document and certification requirements for your application with the relevant institution, and include the current list of requirements in your translation request.
